West Aurora Real Estate
The area known as the West Side of Aurora extends from the west bank of the Fox River out past Orchard Road and from Route 30 in the south to Butterfield Road in the north. The entire west side is only perhaps half the size of the east side of the city, yet it is full of beautiful parks, nature preserves, hiking trails as well as residential areas that make it an extremely popular location for homeowners. The west side is home to School District 129 which is made up of many area grade and middle schools that all feed into West Aurora High School located on Galena Boulevard.
The near west side close to the river includes several of Aurora’s major districts of historic homes including the Near Westside Historic District, the Riddle Highlands, Tanner Historic District and Palace Historic District. These west side historic districts play host to several important homes that are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Homes on Aurora’s west side date from the 1860’s all the way to brand new homes on the far west side.
One of the most well-known areas on the west side of Aurora is called the Aurora University Area, or “Aurora U Area” for short. This refers to a group of homes located around Aurora University on the southwest side. Many of these homes were built in the 1930’s through 1960’s and feature a collection of styles including English Tudor and Bungalow. Known for its wide boulevards, large yards and good mix of homes, the Aurora U area remains a very popular and stylisharea to live.
The far west side of Aurora features several areas of new construction as well as Orchard Valley Golf Club and shopping along Orchard Road. The far west side is known for its parks and recreation areas. These include the Virgil Gilman Trail maintained by the Fox Valley Park District that extends for roughly 11 miles along the west side of the city. Other Park District attractions include the recently-completed Vaughan Athletic and Aquatic Center which joins Blackberry Farm’s Pioneer Village and Splash Country as some of the west side’s featured recreation areas.
